Schedule & season

Everything happens in the wrestling room at Deer Creek High School unless we tell you otherwise. Practice days are listed below by age group.

Every week

Practice schedule

Wrestlers train with their own age group. If you are not sure where your wrestler belongs, come to the group that matches their grade and a coach will sort it out.

Weekly practice by group
Group Grades Days Time Room
Little Hawks Pre-K – 2 Season runs Nov 9 – Dec 14 · five weeks · days and times announced before the season starts
Elementary 1–5 Monday – Thursday 5:15 – 6:30 PM DCHS Wrestling Room
Middle School 6–8 Monday – Thursday 3:00 – 5:00 PM DCHS Wrestling Room
High School 9–12 Monday – Thursday 3:00 – 5:00 PM DCHS Wrestling Room

Arrive early

Get there 10 minutes before start. Wrestlers should be changed, hydrated, and on the mat when practice begins — not walking through the door.

Missing a practice

Life happens and we do not run a punishment system for it. If your wrestler will be out for more than a week, send a coach a quick note so we keep their partner pairings working.

Parents in the room

Parents are welcome to watch from the designated area. For Little Hawks, a parent on the mat edge is often exactly what a nervous five-year-old needs.

The year

Season at a glance

Wrestling has two halves: the folkstyle season in winter, and the freestyle and Greco season in spring. You can do one or both.

Tournaments

We do not publish our own tournament schedule. Utah events are posted by Utah USA Wrestling and TrackWrestling, and that is where you enter them. A coach will point you at the ones worth doing — ask before your wrestler's first one.

Schedule changes, cancellations, and weather calls go out on our GroupMe team chat before they are posted here. Ask a coach for the invite link at your first practice.

Competing

How we handle tournaments

Tournaments are optional at every level of this club, and they stay optional. A wrestler who trains all season and never competes is still a full member of this team.

When a coach thinks your wrestler is ready, we will tell you directly — and the decision is still yours. Nobody gets pushed onto a mat to fill a bracket.

Entry fees are paid per event by each family, and most local events run on a Saturday morning. Your first one will feel chaotic. Bring a folding chair, snacks, and patience; by the third one you will know the drill better than we do.

Your first tournament, honestly

  • Arrive for weigh-ins, not for the start time
  • Expect long gaps between matches
  • Bring food — venue food is bad and expensive
  • Your wrestler will probably lose. That is normal and it is not a crisis.
  • Cheer for effort, not outcome. Coaching from the stands is the fastest way to rattle a kid.
Getting there

Where we train

Deer Creek High School
901 W. Riverhawk Rd
Heber City, UT 84032

The wrestling room is not inside the high school

It is in the athletic building — a separate building just north of the main school. Plenty of first-timers walk into the high school by mistake, so head for the other building.

  1. Park at the high school 901 W. Riverhawk Rd. The athletic building is the separate one to the north.
  2. Use the southeast doors On the south-east corner of the athletic building.
  3. Wrestling room is on the first floor You will hear it before you find it.

Still lost? Message us on GroupMe and a coach will come meet you at the door.

Room rules

  • No street shoes on the mat, ever
  • No food or drink on the mat — water bottles go on the edge
  • Fingernails trimmed before every practice
  • Any skin irritation gets shown to a coach before stepping on
  • Shower at home right after practice
  • Younger siblings stay off the mat during practice
